Child safety standards
Mudiwa is only for adults aged 18 and over. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) and for child sexual abuse material (CSAM). This page says how we keep children out, what is not allowed, what we do when we find it, and how to tell us about a concern.
Adults only
- We check date of birth at sign-up, and our selfie check estimates age.
- If someone looks younger than 18, or is reported as possibly under 18, we pause the account and ask for proof of age, which a person reviews.
- If someone is under 18, we close the account and delete their data. We keep only a minimal record so they cannot re-join until they turn 18.
- Reports of a possible minor are always urgent. A person reviews them within 2 hours, during review hours (07:00 to 23:00 every day).
What is not allowed
These come from rules R2 and R6 of our Community Guidelines.
- Joining if you are under 18, or lying about your age.
- Contacting, or trying to meet, anyone under 18, including asking someone in a sexual way whether they are “really” over 18.
- Photos that make someone look like a child, and photos of children on their own. Family photos with children are not allowed in a profile, to protect those children.
- Sharing, forwarding, screenshotting or threatening to share any sexual image or video of anyone under 18, however it was obtained.
What we do
- Anyone who tries to contact or meet a child for sex is banned and reported to the police.
- Any sexual image of a child leads to an immediate ban, and we report it to the police as the law requires.
- We remove the content and keep the evidence safely so that the police can use it.
- We do not hold appeals for bans involving child sexual abuse material.
- A person always decides. Our automated tools can blur a photo, show a warning or flag something for review, and a trained member of our team makes the decision.
How to report a concern
- In the app: open the “···” menu on any profile or chat, or go to the Safety centre, and choose “Seems under 18” or the reason that fits. You can also block or unmatch at any time. Your report is confidential: we never tell the person you reported.
- Without the app: contact our child safety contact below. Please give us the profile name and, if you can, a screenshot. Do not forward any sexual image of a child to anyone, including us: describe it instead.
