Delete your Mudiwa account

You can delete your account and the data in it at any time, with the app or without it.

In the app (quickest)

Open Settings, then Account, then Delete account, and follow the steps. Your profile is hidden straight away.

Without the app

Enter the email address you sign in to Mudiwa with (your Google account address or the one you get sign-in codes at). We email a code to it: only someone who can read that inbox can delete the account, and that same address is told straight away.

We email a 6-digit code to this address. Only someone who can read that inbox can delete the account.

If you no longer have access to that email address, write to us from any address and tell us what you can: your first name, the photos on your profile and roughly when you joined. We may ask for more before we act, so that nobody else can delete your account.

What happens when you delete

  • Your profile is hidden straight away. Your matches end and you are signed out everywhere.
  • We erase your account and its data after 7 days. That short wait lets you change your mind: email us and we can bring it back. It is always erased within 30 days.
  • This includes your profile, photos, messages and voice notes, your likes and settings, and your trusted contact.
  • Pausing your account is different. It only hides your profile and does not delete anything.

What we keep, and for how long

We keep only the limited records the law requires or that keep other members safe:

  • Reports, evidence and enforcement records, including the reported messages: 1 year after the case is closed, and longer if a court case or police investigation needs them.
  • If an account was banned for serious harm: a minimal record (protected identifiers, reason code and date) and the related evidence for up to 6 years, to stop that person coming back.
  • Security and sign-in logs: up to 90 days.
  • Consent records: the life of the account plus 3 years.
  • Backups: overwritten within 35 days.

The full table is in section 7 of our Privacy Policy. An account that has been banned cannot be deleted from here, because our safety team decides what must be kept.

Want a copy of your data first?

In the app, go to Settings, then Consents and my data, then Download my data. If you cannot use the app, email us and we will help. Do this before you delete, because once the account is erased there is nothing left to send.
